Leaders in the rendering industry announce merger
Anamax and Sanimal Merge to Share Expertise and Technology

Green Bay, Wis. January 13, 2005 - The Boards of the Anamax Group of Companies, Green Bay, Wis., and Sanimal Inc., Montréal, Québec, today announced that they will join forces under a recently approved merger agreement.

The two companies, both recognized as leaders in rendering, are merging to take complete advantage of strategic opportunities in the industry. Through the exchange of knowledge, best practices, and technological advances, each will build upon its tradition of excellence to better provide customers with superior levels of quality and service.

“Because the foundations of our two companies are similar––both family-owned with mirroring corporate values––the merger will be seamless,” says Mike Langenhorst, President and CEO of the Anamax Group of Companies. “Together we will be able to continue to live the corporate vision that our company has embraced since 1881.”

“We are very excited by the opportunities that this new relationship gives us,” explains Andre Couture, Chairman of Sanimal. “This exchange of knowledge and technology is truly a case where one plus one will equal three.”
Andre Couture of Sanimal will be Chairman of the newly merged organization and there will be no changes in regional management or operations. Mike Langenhorst will continue as President and CEO of the Anamax Group of Companies, U.S., and Martin Couture will continue as President of Sanimal, Canada.

The Anamax Group of Companies, founded in 1881 by the Meyer family, has remained a family-owned business since its inception. With facilities in Green Bay, De Forest, and Kenosha, Wisconsin, and South St. Paul, Minnesota, the Anamax Group recycles animal and food by-products into tallows, greases, gelatin bone, proteins, hides, and skins used in various industries nationally and internationally.

Sanimal, founded by the Couture family in 1939, is currently in its third generation of ownership. Through facilities in Alberta, Ontario, and Québec, Sanimal Inc. and its affiliated companies, including Bi-Pro Marketing Limited, serves the agri-business industry worldwide. Products and services include the collection, processing, enhancement, and marketing of animal by-products, food ingredients, grain, and grain by-products.
